I think each trip should have at least one splurge. This something should be worth saving for, and be a reward for oneself. Maybe it's a dinner at a coveted Michelin Star restaurant, a spa appointment, a private museum tour, a shopping excursion, a bottle of wine from a vineyard visited, or a night at a 5-star hotel. It shouldn't be something unattainable, nor should it be an expenditure you'll regret later. Rather, something that will be a highlight of the trip that you'll look back on fondly.
I'm contemplating a splurge for my next trip to Europe (God-willing). I've set my sights on a few options, one being a stay at Hotel Villa Honegg near Lucerne Switzerland. Hotel Villa Honegg "...was built in 1905 and reopened in 2011 following a complete refurbishment that succeeded in preserving its historical charm" (HVH). The hotel looks simply idyllic, with sweeping views of mountains, the lake and surrounding hillside. I can just imagine spending a day lounging around taking in the sights from this stunning boutique hotel.

I first learned of the hotel upon seeing a photo of the heated infinity pool overlooking Lake Lucern. I was captivated and quickly got to Googling where this pool was. Imagine watching the sun set over the snowcapped mountains, reflecting in Lake Lucern below. Simply gorgeous!

Rooms start at 580 SFr., which equates to about $612 USD. Rooms include balconies with views of the lake or mountains. Amenities include free high-speed WIFI, free mini-bar with non-alcoholic beverages, access to the spa/pool area, breakfast, bicycles, in-house cinema, and free shuttle transfer to the hotel for arrival and departure from Ennetbürgen, Post.
