Eternal London Haunts Us Still

Updated: May 10, 2018

When I travel I always have my trusty journal. As Oscar Wilde once wrote in The Importance of Being Ernest, "I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train." I started journaling during my first trip to London in the summer of 2012 when I studied abroad. That trip was mind opening, more so than I could have ever imagined. It was my first time to travel to an international destination without adult supervision. It was my first time to actually live someplace that wasn't home or college. It was the first place I traveled where I didn't feel like a lousy tourist. In fact, I reveled in my ability to navigate the Tube system or winding streets of Southbank like a native.

When I returned home, after a two month stint abroad, I concluded my journal with the following quote from Thomas Moore:

"Go where we may, rest where we will, Eternal London haunts us still."

Indeed, London will always haunt me. It follows me around, like an itch I can't scratch. It's a travel bug, wanderlust obsession from which I will launch this blog.
