Creag Mhor Lodge - North Ballachuish

Inverness-shire (PH22 6RY)

Of two things I strongly believe. One, my Lord savior, and two, eating breakfast before a long journey. I'm doing that now - eating a hearty Scottish breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, and vegetables. I forgot coffee...much needed coffee!

Today we're taking it slow. Driving through the mountains towards the Isle of Skye. We need a break from the busyness and schedules. Just a slow drive through the beautiful landscape.

...

From Kenmore we drove to Fort William. Along the way we got to see the famous Loch Lomond Trossachs National Park and Glencoe (where they filmed Skyfall)... The next morning we drove to the Isle of Skye. First we stopped at Glennfinnan Viaduct where we got to see the towering railway bridge in the distance. This was best seen from the lookout point - a short hike up the wooded hill.

Along the way we also stopped at the Eileen Donan Castle. The castle sits on a small island in the middle of a loch. We walked out on the bridge to get onto the island. The castle was surprisingly small on the outside, yet quite large on the inside. There were layers and layers of rooms, hallways, and staircases. The interiors were decorated with traditional furniture and historical artifacts. I quite enjoyed touring the castle and learning about its role during the numerous naval battles that took place there.

After touring Eileen Donan Castle we crossed the bridge connecting Scotland to the Isle of Skye. The roads to follow were narrow and rural. I went around curves at a very slow speed due to the limited visibility. Very nerve wracking!
