When looking for accommodations in Scotland, one cannot rely on the usual suspects - Hotels.com, Booking.com, Expedia.com, etc. Scotland is vast and rich with bed and breakfasts, many of which without listings on these popular sites. Creag Mhor Lodge was such an establishment, and one I was thrilled for the opportunity to visit.
Creag Mhor is a recently renovated Victorian Lodge that offers ten spacious bedrooms, all with modern en-suite. The property is located between Glencoe and Fort William. Private parking was available, albeit limited.
"The Creag Mhor Lodge was lovely, and sat along the shore of a small loch. After a long day of driving, a short stroll along the rocky beach was just what I needed."
I particularly enjoyed the large loch in front of the property (shown in the image above), and the "...well stocked bar with over one hundred malts, some hard to come by" (visitscotland). After a day of driving on highland back roads, the lodge and its bar offered quite the reprieve!
I enjoyed a glass of single malt Glenmorangie, the Quinta Ruban Fort Cask Finish, if you're interested. I used the word "smoky" to describe it before the barkeeper politely corrected me. "It's peety," he said with a tired smile. Through gritted teeth Brooke bared her single malt Dalwhinnie. The bar burned our throats and our cash reserves.
The bathroom was clean and the "family room" large enough to sleep four women, two to a bed. Our windows looked out onto the loch and mountain. Breathtaking.
A traditional breakfast was served in the morning. Thick bacon, dripping eggs, fresh sliced bread, steamed tomatoes, and black coffee.
