A Twist on Historical London

London, England

The next morning we went to a service at Westminster Abby. The four of us were all dressed up and our church fineries. We were seated in the poets corner, where I sat five years prior. This service was lovely, and following the service we got to meet the Mayor of Westminster, who shook hands with all the attendants following the service.

After changing out of our dresses we grabbed lunch near Tower Hill. At 3:30 we joined the last tour group led by the Beefeaters. Our Yeoman was hilarious, making jokes about how we modern people romanticize the past, especially the Tudors. I'm always impressed by The Tower's history. We quickly toured The Crown Jewels and The Bloody Tower before The Tower closed for the night.

Then we walked across the bridge (Southwark I believe) towards the Shakespeare Globe Theatre. We had tickets to see Romeo & Juliet as part of the 2017 Summer of Love season. The show was a contemporary portrayal of the play. There were men and women in the cast, and the costumes were a mix of modern, Elizabethan, and Victorian. The makeup closely resembeled clown makeup with white faces, black eyes, and red noses. There was blood and electric dance music. Best yet, the acts were layered on top of each other, which made the show much shorter, and therefore more suspenseful. I truly enjoyed it.

After the show we went to a Greek restaurant for dinner. Then we walked around in search of a Tube station to get home.
